Thanks. They're actually use for the rigging attachment points, but without the rigging, the joints would definitely need some reinforcement. The braided core nylon beading wire works well for keeping the wings tied down well. This model will be a bit tricky, since the end struts meet in a single V point. Both wings will have to be as straight as possible, before assembling everything. With the more common double strut setup you can adjust the tension on the X cables and make sure that both left and right wings have the same washout, granted that they are both properly set in relation to each other when the struts are fitted to length. With this subject the rigging running from the outer lower strut point to the inner upper points will be first installed. Then the upper 2 rigging points at the outer struts that attaches to a single lower point just above the wing saddle will allow for some tweaking to make sure that the washouts are matched, but not as effectively as on a double strut setup. Gotta love biplanes.

Building vintage biplanes is anything but easy! I'm still amazed that I talked myself into another vintage biplane project. Down to final assembly now.

Thanks Pat. Somehow I managed to set the wings really straight, so I have high hopes for this one.

Finished at 11.6oz AUW with TP 3s-480, needing about 7gms of lead to set the CG. With decent proportions and a large stab, I don't think the CG will have to be as far forward as something like the Guillows Sopwith Camel. The CG is about at 26%, averaged between the two wings.

Default Research, research and more research

Bill G,

Hope your still on this forum. Great build article. Just got back into rubber/electric powered balsa models. I am a new member that wishes he had read your post before beginning to start this Comet Albatros DV model. I've got the fuselage 85% built, as well as the lower wing. I thought I was being finicky complaining to myself that the balsa was crap, and the build was insane. I should have listened to my gut. I my just scrap what I've built and build from scratch. Good thing I traced the formers.
